Nike commits to renewable energy in Europe

20/02/2019
Sportswear manufacturer Nike aims to have all its offices in Europe powered completely by renewable energy by 2020 after signing a ‘clean energy’ deal with Spanish electric utility company Iberdrola.

The group will use power from Iberdrola’s new wind project in northern Spain, which is due to be completed next year.

This partnership builds on a deal that Nike agreed last year with Iberdrola subsidiary Avangrid Renewables to source wind power for its facilities in the US, including its global headquarters in Oregon. It will allow it to source 100% renewable energy across all the sites it owns or operates in North America.

“Delivering on our sustainability commitments, like working towards 100 per cent renewable energy across our owned and operated facilities worldwide, is just one of the ways we protect the future of sport,” said Noel Kinder, Nike’s chief sustainability officer.

He added that with 100% renewable energy being used in North America and Europe, Nike will be more than 75% of the way towards this goal.
