Nike expands facility in Belgium
Sportswear manufacturer Nike has further expanded its European Logistics Campus in Belgium with the aim of making the company’s European operations more efficient, more responsive and more sustainable. The facility now stretches across four locations in the country – Laakdal, Meerhout, Herentals and Ham – and employs 3,000 people.
“The expansion of our European Logistics Campus demonstrates our commitment to bring the full range of Nike products to consumers more quickly, where and when they want it,” said Nike COO Eric Sprunk.
The Campus uses 100% renewable energy, sourcing it from five locally generated sources: wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass. It has six on-site wind turbines. 99% of containers received at the facility arrive by water instead of road, saving 14,000 truck journeys each year, according to Nike. More than 95% of the waste generated by the facility is recycled and pathways around it are made from recycled footwear materials.
“Our facilities in Belgium are a pinnacle example of how sustainable innovation is embedded into Nike’s growth strategy, which enables us to maximise our performance while minimising our footprint,” said Bert Stevens, vice president of supply chain operations.
