WakaWaka joins rival to boost solar power for remote communities

01/02/2018
Dutch solar power and lighting company WakaWaka has teamed up with rival d.light to “accelerate the speed at which they achieve their common goal: to provide light and power to more than two billion people who do not have access to reliable electricity”.

WakaWaka is a member of the European Outdoor Conservation Association and, through its foundation, offers free light and power packs to remote and disadvantaged communities using profits from sales.

The companies say they will focus on their main markets while leveraging mutually available economies of scale and business networks. This could result in cost saving opportunities and joint impact projects.

B.light co-founder Ned Tozun said: “The poorest people in the world are spending 20% of their income on energy sources that pollute their lungs and cause thousands of deaths each year. The sooner we’re able to make clean energy products universally accessible and affordable, the sooner they can start experiencing a brighter future.”
