Solvay and Lenzing combine to make new fabric
Chemical group Solvay has worked with fibre manufacturer Lenzing to combine two of their products, respectively, Amni Soul Eco polyamide and lyocell fibre Tencel, to make a new fabric.

This new fabric has Tencel on the back and Amni Soul Eco enhances the front. The companies have highlighted the sustainability credentials of the fabric because the Tencel is derived from managed wood sources, while Amni Soul Eco is the first polyamide 6.6 fibre to offer improved biodegradability.

It’s the Tencel side of the fabric that will come into contact with the skin, aiding comfort, breathability and antibacterial properties. Polyamide in the fabric face will provide good abrasion resistance, colour retention and fast-drying properties.

“The combination of Tencel and Amni Soul Eco results in a more sustainable, comfortable, easy-care fabric that advances the concept of circular economy,” said Andreas Guertler, head of global business management for activewear at Lenzing. “Future collaborations with Solvay will focus on using Tencel with Refibra technology, our newest fibre, made from upcycled cotton scraps and wood pulp, and Amni Soul Eco polyamide to further reduce our environmental impact.”

For her part, Solvay business development manager, Daniela Antunes, said she expected fabrics made from the two companies’ fibres to bring “great results in terms of durability, comfort and performance”.
