Lenzing to make significant investment in Thailand lyocell plant

04/07/2019
Cellulosic fibre manufacturer Lenzing has announced it is to build a new lyocell fibre production plant in Prachinburi, Thailand. This is the first stage of the group’s plan to invest more than €1 billion in order to boost its global production capacity.

Its new facility in Thailand will require investment of around €400 million and will have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes when fully operational. Construction will begin later this year, with production expected to begin towards the end of 2021.

Among the reasons it gave for choosing Prachinburi’s Industrial Park 304 as the location of this new facility was its excellent infrastructure and its access to a sustainable energy supply. It also pointed to Thailand’s “favourable trade agreements” with important Asian economic blocks.

Lenzing has also said there will be scope to further expand the site in the future, with space available for several plants. The initial investment will include implementing a general infrastructure that will be useful further down the line, it added.
