Lenzing commits to developing softer textiles

Fibre producer Lenzing says its Tencel products could help “improve the quality of life” of children with severe skin conditions following positive results from initial tests.

The undergarments, pyjamas and bed linens were given to children with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a genetic disease that makes the skin vulnerable to flaking.

The company said: “Coarse fibres, seams, buttons, zips and fibres that don’t absorb sweat can lead to additional blisters and sores and increased itching. Tencel fibres feature particularly good moisture management and this supports the temperature-regulating properties of the body.”

Lenzing CEO Stefan Doboczky said he was proud that the textiles were positively received and that the company would use feedback to develop even softer products.
