Covestro and Lenzing work together on material for footwear

Polymer manufacturer Covestro has worked with Austrian fibre manufacturing group Lenzing to develop materials for footwear.

The material combines Tencel lyocell fibre from Lenzing, derived from cellulose from trees, with Covestro’s Insqin surface material, which is based on waterborne polyurethane (PU) synthetics coating technology.

Covestro has argued that this development offers the shoe industry “access to PU synthetics that set new standards in terms of sustainability”.
