Lenzing joins blockchain movement
Fibre manufacturer Lenzing Group has partnered Hong Kong-based technology company TextileGenesis to apply blockchain technology to Tencel, with the aim of full traceability as early as next year.

Lenzing says the move will ensure complete traceability for brands and consumers through QR codes on the finished garment.

TextileGenesis describes blockchain as “a distributed ledger, immutable to any alteration” and says its platform allows digitization and traceability of any textile asset such as fibre, yarn, fabric or garment through fibercoins - "blockchain-based digital-tokens".

“This milestone in transparency is a further strong commitment to sustainability”, says Stefan Doboczky, CEO of the Austrian group. “We aim to create an unmatched level of transparency for brands and consumers.”

Lenzing will carry out pilot tests over the coming months involving partners along the supply chain.
