“High-risk” PET bottles are Unifi’s new target
Specialist recycled fibre producer Unifi has added to its Repreve recycled polyester range by introducing a version that uses “high-risk” bottles.

To help deal with the problem of ocean plastic before the material drifts too far out to sea, Unifi’s new idea is to target bottles collected within 50 kilometres of coastlines in countries or regions that lack formal waste collection and recycling systems.

Bottles from these areas will go into the new product, which will be called Repreve Our Ocean.

Unifi’s vice-president for branded sales of Unifi, Jay Hertwig, said on announcing the new product that it would give brands an opportunity to “tell an ocean-focused story”.

He explained: “Forward-thinking brands that want to take a stronger stand in addressing ocean pollution and want to make a specific statement about protecting the environment now have a brand new option.”
