HDWool gains two investors

04/09/2019
Media-backed fund Sky Ocean Ventures is investing in wool specialist HDWool as part of its mission to reduce microplastics in the ocean.

In addition, Innovate UK, a government-backed innovation agency, is providing funding to support product development.

HDWool’s products include noble fibres, greasy wool, scoured wool, wool tops, open tops and non-woven natural fillings.

More recently, its portfolio has widened to include Axminster Carpets, the manufacturer of Axminster weave, raw material supplier H.Dawson Natural Fibre Technologies and HDWool Active Insulation, a provider of garment insulation.

“To have two partners that not only recognise the potential of HDWool but also share the values of performance and environmental responsibility is a really exciting step for this business,” said CEO Jo Dawson.

“Wool has always been known as a miracle fibre, but since HRH Prince Charles became involved with the Campaign for Wool, interest in it has resurfaced. The trend is for even more technical fabrics that use biomimicry inspiration – this is an opportunity to use the original fibre rather than imitate the incredible creations of nature.”
