Apple publishes patent for smart clothing

Patently Apple, a blog devoted to reporting on Apple’s intellectual property, reports that Apple has published a patent for “smart clothing”, suggesting the company is exploring integrating its health and fitness-tracking technology into apparel.

The patent, which was filed late last year, is shown by Patently Apple to feature a soft round band with sensors and circuitry that can be woven into fabric. Yarns for the device, the patent says, may be composed of polymer, ceramic, graphite, glass, metal, cotton or bamboo.

Apple engineer Daniel Podhajny, who also worked on the patent for Nike Flyknit breathable material runners, is listed as one of the inventors.
