First wheat straw garment from Fortum-Spinnova partnership

The partners have carried out a life-cycle analysis (LCA) of the prototype material, which has confirmed what they are calling “extremely low environmental impact” from the raw material extraction, the processing and manufacture of the product.
On making the announcement, Fortum’s vice-president for bio-based solutionis, Heli Antila, called the product a “revolutionary textile”. She said: “Today, wheat straw is mostly discarded or even burned in the fields. As it can now be used in textile applications, this opens up huge possibilities globally.”
