Spinnova and Bestseller work towards commercial scale-up

24/09/2020
Danish retailer Bestseller has partnered Finnish fibre company Spinnova in a joint product development initiative to see if the material will work in one of its brands.

Bestseller was one of the early adopters of the novel fibre material.

Having proof of concept from its pilot production line, Spinnova is starting to build its commercial scale-up. Spinnova has a number of brand owners onboard, committed to long-term collaboration.

Bestseller has also set up an innovation lab called Fashion FWD Lab, which focuses on new, low-impact and circular materials, better production, new business models and smarter ways of manufacturing.

Spinnova and Bestseller were introduced by the Fashion for Good initiative that works as a matchmaker for brands and innovators. Spinnova was part of the Fashion for Good Scale-up programme in 2018-2020.

Launched as a spin-off from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 2014, Spinnova claims to have developed a way of reducing wood pulp to a polymer and regenerating cellulosic filaments “without complex chemical processes”.

See WSA October 2017 for an indepth look at Spinnova’s material. The pdf can be downloaded in the WSA Archive section of the website (under Polymer, Fibres and Yarns).
