Burberry to release wellies-inspired luxury sneaker
Luxury brand Burberry is about to release a new runway sneaker, with versions crafted in sheep leather, technical nylon and suede. The Arthur Sneaker retails for anywhere between $790 for monochromatic versions to $1550 for a pair with crystal detailing (pictured).
The Arthur was named after Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of Wellington — and the man for whom ‘wellies’ are nicknamed. A polished overshoe is inspired by the iconic rain boots, while the cross-detailed tread alludes to Burberry’s famous checked pattern.
Burberry describes the shoe as ‘a modern sneaker shape with a streetwear influence, accented with a polished rubber sole’ with a ‘design nod to the classic wellington and waterproof galoshes worn by sailors’.
Uppers of the Italian-made shoes include cotton and calf suede, and the lining is composed in part of polyester and sheep leather. Burberry lettering is embossed at the heel and shoes come with an extra pair of contrasting colour shoe laces.
