Machine knits seam-free athletic garments
The latest version of the flagship product from computerised knitting machine manufacturer Shima Seiki creates seam-free knitwear ideal for athletic apparel.

According to the company, being seam-free mitigates discomfort, chafing and limitations in stretch while opening up new possibilities for wearable technology.

The company’s Mach2XS Wholegarment knitting machine features include the SlideNeedle on four needle beds and a spring-loaded movable sinker system. Seamless whole garments with dimensional structures are said to consume only the minimum amount of materials required for each item.

The machine, which will be featured at ISPO, has a new tension control option that can adjust yarn feed amount according to the stretch property of each yarn, particularly suitable to the elastic yarns used in sportswear and compression wear. At ISPO, the machine will be knitting a base layer shirt knit with elastic yarn to demonstrate this feature. Samples produced on Mach2XS and other machines will also be on display.
