Organisers said sustainable elements featured prominently in the 480 items in ten categories, from insulation through to outer layer, trims, and accessories.
“I saw really amazing stuff, smart stuff, more than I expected,” said Giusy Bettoni, CEO and founder of Milan's multi-platform fashion group C.L.A.S.S. “I don’t think I saw any article without the word eco-friendly. There is a lot of good work happening in the industry, that’s for sure.”
DuPont Sorona won for the Accelerated Eco category, with a recyclable, plant-based faux fur (pictured) that “offers a natural luxury look with super soft sensational natural hand touch.” Composed of 80% DuPont Sorona and 20% recycled polyester, the recyclable faux fur is said to have “have one of the best hand feels on the market.”
Winner of the Second Layer category was Polartec Power Air, a “revolutionary knit construction that encapsulates air to retain warmth and reduce microfibre shedding.” The performance fabric is said to have advanced thermal efficiency and sheds up to 5 times less than other premium mid-layer fabrics.
Flower Down by Italian company Minardi Piume won the Fibres and Insulations category with its mixture of P.U.R.E recycled down and a vegetable fibre originated from the Kapok tree. The final product is said to take advantage of the down’s insulation and comfort and the Kapok fibre’s fluffiness and water resistance, resulting in improved performance in humid environments.
Other winners include Bundle quality yarn by China’s Zhejiang Xinao Textiles for the Base Layer category; a transparent and lightweight woven fabric from South Korea’s Hyosung for the Outer Layer category; TiEF PRO three layers by China’s Toread Holdings Group for Membranes and Coatings; a spray dyeing technology from Taiwan’s Grand Textile in the Street Sports category; Aluula Gold ultra-lightweight, high-tensile composite materials from Canada’s Aluula Composites in the Soft Equipment category; heat transfer technology from Lithuania’s JSC Laurema in the Trims category; and MUSHRO Grip Tap by Austria’s Ing. Gerhard Fildan in the Accessories category.
