Stella McCartney brings sustainable faux fur to 2020 line

03/10/2019

Fashion designer Stella McCartney, known for her environmental and animal-friendly practices, has collaborated with faux fur specialists Ecobel to create Koba Fur-Free Fur — said to be both bio-based and recyclable.

Koba by Ecopel is composed of recycled polyester and up to 100% DuPont Sorona polymer homofilament fibres, making it, according to a statement, the first commercially available faux furs using bio-based ingredients.

“Stella McCartney has led the industry that is now increasingly moving away from the use of animal-based furs,” said Renee Henze, global marketing director of DuPont Biomaterials. Following the launch of Koba, she added, “we expect to see the use of bio-based materials gain even greater use and acceptance in the textile and fashion industry.”

A black onyx prototype was debuted at the Summer 2020 show in Paris, and the faux fur will be part of Stella McCartney collections from 2020.
