Portuguese sportswear brand wins CLASS Icon Award 2021
A young designer from Portugal has been awarded the CLASS Icon Award 2021 for her sportswear brand Duarte’s “new way of being cool, yet responsible”.

Ana Duarte, founder and head of design, makes use of local factories’ deadstock and has designed the garments to be reused and upcycled to create new collections.

She said: “Sustainability means durability, fair work practices, recycled materials and zero waste.”

It is the second year that Italy-based textiles-focused agency CLASS has presented the award, which was launched to support up-and-coming designers and independent brands.

CLASS founder Giusy Bettoni said: “Duarte injects sustainability into streetwear with a bold, energetic, positive and fresh style and new sustainable values. It’s time to overcome greenwashing, it’s time to give voices to brilliant designers like Ana who create exquisite storytelling matching virtuous story-making.”
