Allbirds’ first running shoe made with sugarcane and eucalyptus

Allbirds, a California-based footwear brand that emphasises the use of sustainable material in its casual shoes, has released its first running shoe. 

Said to be the brand’s most technical shoe to date, the Tree Dasher has a dual-density sugarcane SweetFoam midsole from carbon negative green EVA. The one-piece upper is made from FSC certified eucalyptus trees, and ZQ merino wool goes around the heel counter. The castor-bean insole is said to emit less carbon than petroleum-based foam.  

The shoe offers “a new way to use natural materials” the company said on social media. The brand also pointed out that Runners World magazine deemed it to be a “legit running shoe”.
