Allbirds closes loop with US resale scheme
San Francisco-headquartered footwear and, since last summer, activewear brand Allbirds recently announced the launch of its ReRun resale platform in partnership with recommerce facilitator Trove, also based in California.
For $20 in-store credit, customers at Allbirds’ Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City stores can now trade in shoes they previously purchased from the brand. Allbirds will then resell this gently used or “slightly imperfect” footwear at a reduced price, starting at $59.
Exclusively available in the United States at present, the plan is to eventually roll out the scheme to other locations nationally, the firm said.
Chief executive of Trove, Andy Ruben, commented that his company “could not be prouder” of its collaboration with Allbirds, singling out the brand’s commitment to “doubling the lifetime” of its footwear as one reason for this. Meanwhile, head of sustainability at Allbirds, Hana Kajimura, added that customers' own eco-minded motivations will play an “integral” role in the programme's success.
