Lululemon eyes circularity with plant dyes and take-back initiative
20/04/2021
Canadian sportswear brand Lululemon has launched its first take-back programme, as well as a collection dyed with the waste of oranges, beets and saw palmetto trees.
The Earth Dye collection follows the introduction of solution-dyed nylon, as well as recycled polyester and Forest Stewardship Council- certified rubber materials.
Like New is a trade-in and resale programme that reinvests profits to support additional sustainability initiatives. The trade-in launches as a pilot in California and Texas in May, then expands into a resale programme in June.
The initiatives are the latest efforts under the Be Planet sustainability plan, which the company introduced last autumn.
Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald said: “Lululemon is actively working to help create a healthier future, and we are focused on meeting the goals detailed in our Impact Agenda, including making 100% of our products with sustainable materials and end-of-use solutions by 2030.
“Our Like New and Earth Dye initiatives are both meaningful steps towards a circular ecosystem and demonstrate the sustainable innovation under way in product development and retail.”
