Lululemon takes first step in more inclusive sizing

Lululemon, the brand which saw its CEO resign in 2015 for fat-shaming comments and has long fielded criticism for limited sizing, has announced that six of its top styles are now available in sizes 0-20.

This is just the start, the company said, and consumers can expect to see increasingly inclusive sizing across a more expansive variety of pieces released in future seasons. Among these will be a sports bra that runs up to size 40G.

According to Audrey Milligan Reilly, senior vice president of women’s design, the company has spent two to three years researching body types to better understand how materials map onto the body. This has included the use of 3D programs and live sessions involving women sizes 0 through 20 in motion.

“I really believe we have to be a brand that accepts all,” said Ms Reilly. “When I heard people say they couldn't buy anything from lululemon, that was like being punched in the heart.”

“This is actually just the start of the journey. We realise we’ve got much more work to do behind the scenes, more launches to come. We’re going to just keep growing this initiative. We are going to keep coming back, season after season, with much more of an inclusive assortment.”
