Down supplier switches to mask production

Allied Feather & Down, a supplier of down to brands like The North Face, Helly Hansen and Haglöfs, has turned to its bedding division for the mass production of face masks.

Much of the supply of masks from the Los Angeles-based company will go to frontline personnel and organisations serving the homeless community.

The allergen barrier face masks, according to the company, are made of two layers of tightly-woven 233tc cotton that blocks irritants such as allergens and dust from passing through the material.

Allied has also partnered with Fuze biotech to treat masks with a fibre infusion that creates a protective barrier, which is said to remain effective even if CDC guidelines on washing reusable masks cannot be observed.

The treatment, applied through a fine mist on the bulk material, is said to be safe for both the environment and user and allows the mask to be worn more than once without washing.
