Adidas and Allbirds seek to achieve lowest carbon footprint
Germany’s sports giant adidas and New Zealand’s direct-to-consumer footwear company Allbirds are developing a sport performance shoe aimed at having the “lowest ever carbon footprint”.
This will involve innovation in manufacturing and supply chain processes as well as exploring renewable material resources. The brands said they bring together their respective sustainable innovations in this effort.
Over the next year, Allbirds has said, “we’re committing to combining our talents and resources to create the lowest carbon footprint performance shoe ever, with the ultimate goal of a net-zero product.”
The shoe’s carbon footprint will be analysed using Allbirds’s life cycle assessment tool and adidas’ carbon footprint tools for measuring end-to-end carbon emissions. “Our great hope is that this partnership will catalyse other people to share both their best ideas and research so that we can work together in the fight to live more sustainably,” said Tim Brown, co-CEO of Allbirds. “This is a problem that won't be solved by one company alone.”
