Asahi Kasei opens multipurpose showroom in Hong Kong

Japanese chemical company Asahi Kasei has opened a new showroom in Hong Kong, where it will be launching developments related to its Bemberg smart fibre.

The showroom — developed in partnership with CHH — will launch a luxury Bemberg yarn dyed stock service for linings and a Bemberg smart tag for linings fabrics. The showroom hopes to welcome apparel brands, factories and tailors as well as design schools, colleges and private label designers. It is “a space for inspiration and for business but also for learning, thanks to a programme of workshops,” according to Asahi Kasei.

Bemberg is said to be made from “the smart-tech transformation of cotton linters pre-consumer materials and converted through a traceable and transparent closed loop process”. The resulting fabric is described as “soft and smooth like silk, second skin-like, shining, and bright” with antistatic and breathable performances. The fibre is also biodegradable and compostable.
