Nike launches first dedicated maternity collection

Nike has launched its first dedicated maternity collection, designed for women during all stages of pregnancy and after.

The four-piece capsule will include a pullover, a nursing sports bra, a tank, and leggings that can be folded over or under the belly. Each piece is made from around 78 to 88 percent recycled polyester.

According to the company, Nike (M) — as the collection is called — was developed based on data from more than 150,000 comparison scans of non-pregnant women against those of pregnant women, as well as feedback from nearly 30 female athletes who were pregnant or postpartum. Designers worked on the capsule for more than three years. The collection will launch in North America, Europe and Africa later this month.

"The more we listened to expecting mothers and postpartum mothers, the more we learned, reworked and innovated through inclusive design," says Carmen Zolman, senior design director for apparel innovation. "It's the project of a lifetime to work in lockstep with all kinds of mothers to bring to life a capsule that truly supports women's relationship with sport during such a transformative time in their lives."
