Unifi’s recovery ‘reassuring’, says CEO

Yarn maker Unifi’s first quarter fiscal 2021 sales were 21% lower than the same period last year, but 64% higher than sales in the previous quarter.

However, the maker of Repreve yarn, made from recycled polyester, said the $141.5 million was better than expected and demonstrated its resilience.

This month, the group completed an acquisition of the air-jet texturing assets of Texturing Service to expand the company's textured yarn capabilities.

CEO Eddie Ingle said: “We experienced sequential improvement in revenue during each month of the quarter and the pace of our recovery has been reassuring. 

“Interest in our sustainable solutions remains high, as exemplified by Repreve fibres reaching 35% of our net sales.

“I am confident that our diverse global operations, strong management team and solid financial position will enable us to regain our momentum throughout fiscal 2021."
