Peak Performance and others join Circular Fashion Partnership
Copenhagen-based Global Fashion Agenda recently announced the participation of over 30 fashion brands, manufacturers and recyclers in its Circular Fashion Partnership, including Peak Performance, Marks & Spencer, H&M Group, Beximco, Renewcell and Lenzing.
The cross-sectorial project is led by Global Fashion Agenda, in collaboration with partners Reverse Resources, The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and P4G.
By facilitating circular commercial collaborations between fashion brands, textile and garment manufacturers and recyclers, the partnership aims to boost the development and implementation of new systems to capture and direct post-production fashion waste back into the production of new fashion products.
The initiative is concentrated on Bangladesh, as the nation “arguably possesses the most in-demand and recyclable waste of any garment producing country”, a press release said. Further, the “majority” of fashion-related waste generated in Bangladesh is currently being exported or downcycled.
It is hoped that a successful business model for adopting more circular processes can be realised, with plans to ultimately roll out such a model in other countries, such as Vietnam and Indonesia. The project learnings will be presented at the end of 2021 in a report entitled: Circularity Playbook for Bangladesh.
Global Fashion Agenda’s chief sustainability officer, Morten Lehmann, commented: “To establish a circular fashion system we need to reimagine the production process so that it appreciates the value of textile waste.
“It is encouraging to see so many prestigious companies sign up to the Circular Fashion Partnership and, with their help, I am confident that we can demonstrate a strong business model for circularity that can be mirrored by others in the future.”
