Asics upcycles second-hand clothing into running shoes
Japanese sports brand Asics recently launched its Sunrise Reborn Pack of new, limited-edition running shoes, made from recycled clothing collected in Japan.
Making the shoes required the same “advanced technology” needed to design a range of upcycled footwear and apparel for the Japanese national team for an international sporting event, the company said.
The Sunrise Reborn Pack, part of the brand’s broader sunrise-inspired initiative, includes new models of the Metaride and Gel-Quantum 360 TYO shoes, both created in a “sunrise red” colourway.
COO and president of Asics, Yasuhito Hirota, commented: “We’re committed to playing our part in building a circular economy that helps reduce CO2 emissions and keep global warming at less than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
“Through sustainable products like this, we want to let people all over the world enjoy the mental and physical benefits of sport while preserving the planet for future generations to do the same.”
