Upcycling innovator is first Arc’teryx design ambassador

Canadian technical outdoor brand Arc’teryx has named New York-based creative Nicole McLaughlin (pictured) its first ever design ambassador.

Ms McLaughlin, who currently has more than 620,000 followers on Instagram alone, is known for her green-minded, innovative approach to upcycling and repurposing materials from sportswear to sauce sachets into fashion articles.

As part of her new role, she will reportedly lead a series of public-facing seminars, beginning this autumn with an upcycling workshop.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms McLaughlin said: “As a climber and designer, I’m excited to partner with Arc’teryx. I am looking forward to shared learnings and connecting our communities so that together we can amplify the value of circularity, including repurposing garments to keep waste out of landfills.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Nicole to the Arc’teryx team, and we look forward to helping her share her passion for upcycling as we grow and evolve our initiatives in circularity and increasingly offer our customers more sustainable choices”, Arc’teryx brand experience director, Jurgen Watts, added.

Already, the designer has created two new objects out of used Arc’teryx articles and various upcycled matter: the Arc cart (made from two second-hand Arc’teryx-branded Bora 62 backpacks, plus a four-wheeled eBay find) and a mini tent (crafted from Arc’teryx Gore-Tex scraps, patch logos and a used tent structure, found online).
