Latest sustainability report shows progress from Elevate Textiles
The parent group of American & Efird, Burlington, Cone Denim, Gütermann and Safety Components, Elevate Textiles, published its 2021 sustainability report on Earth Day, April 22.
In the report, Elevate outlines progress towards the sustainability goals it has set itself for 2025, focusing on making sure its fibres are sustainably sourced, and on reducing water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are focused on providing ethically and sustainably sourced products that offer innovative solutions,” said chief executive, Sim Skinner.
Highlights in the report include an overall 7.5% reduction in the group’s water use, and a 65% increase in water recycling since 2016. It said it had achieved the increase in water recycling principally through investment in new wastewater technologies at its production plants.
Elevate Textiles also increased its use of sustainably sourced cotton, reaching 68% of the total. Its aim is for 80% of the cotton it uses to be sustainably soured by 2025.
In terms of carbon emissions, it said its efforts to reduce scope-one emissions, those that come from company-owned and company-controlled resources, and scope-two emissions, indirect emissions from the energy it consumes, were in keeping with its target of a 2.5% reduction each year.
In addition, the new report shows that Elevate has also begun to measure scope-three greenhouse gas emissions, which is to say indirect emissions from upstream and downstream partners.
“We are pleased with the progress we have made since our last report as we ramp up our efforts to achieve our sustainability goals,” said chief sustainability officer, Jimmy Summers.
