French economy minister Bruno Le Maire recently announced plans to help accelerate and develop sustainable cotton production in Ivory Coast.

The country’s development agency will reportedly invest €68.5 million (around $82 million) over the next five years.

Mr Le Maire said the investment will be targeted at 120,000 cotton farmers in the West African country’s northern region.

The Ivorian agriculture ministry forecasts cotton production of 500,000 tonnes for the 2020/21 season. In 2019/20, the final figure was 490,000 tonnes.
