China Cotton Textile Association elects new chair
A recent meeting of the China Cotton Textile Association in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, witnessed the election of Dong Kuiyong (pictured) as chairman of the sixth council.
Following his election, Mr Dong spoke highly of the work and achievements of the association’s fifth council over the past five years, stating that a solid foundation had been laid for its next phase of progress and innovation.
He described China’s cotton industry as a “microcosm” for the development of the nation’s textile industry as a whole and stated: “It is the dream of all Chinese cotton workers to build a cotton textile power that is respected and makes great contributions to both China and the world.”
Other high-level speakers during the invent included secretary-general of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and secretary of CNTAC’s party committee, Gao Yong, whose speech reportedly highlighted the need for the country to harness its soft power during 2021, the first year of China’s 14th five-year plan.
He stressed that China’s textile and apparel sector must transform into a “green” and “high-quality” industry.
Mr Gao further emphasised the need for brand China to open its doors to industry-wide international opportunities, while also unblocking domestic bottlenecks, particularly regarding fibre innovation, new spinning technologies and weaving methods.
