Santini has special jerseys ready for the 2021 Vuelta
Specialist cycling apparel brand Santini is, once again, the official supplier of the leaders’ jerseys for the Vuelta a España, tour of Spain, in 2021. After a rearranged autumn schedule last year, the race returns to its usual late-summer dates, running from August 14 to September 5.
Santini has provided leaders’ jerseys for the race for the last five years. It has made this year’s jerseys using Ecofabric RECY from Corno, a fabric spun from recycled yarn recovered from materials that have been used or discarded in the environment, and from Sitip’s Native Ecoknit, which is also made from recycled fibres and yarn.
Jerseys include a red jersey for the overall race leader, a green jersey for the points leader, a white jersey for the best young rider and a jersey with blue polka dots for the best performer in the mountains.
In addition, Santini has designed a number of special jerseys for particular stages. The 2021 Vuelta begins in Burgos, helping to mark the 800th anniversary of the start of the construction of the Castilian city’s famous cathedral. Santini has included in its design for a special jersey for this opening stage a motif of the rose window in the cathedral’s southern façade.
A special jersey for the twenty-first and final stage of this year’s race, which concludes in Santiago de Compostela, includes a scallop-shell motif to celebrate the fact that 2021 is a jubilee year for pilgrims making for Santiago (because the feast of St James, July 25, fell on a Sunday). Along with walking and horseback, cycling is one of the three approved modes of transport for pilgrims arriving in Santiago.
