Inditex founder’s daughter to take reins

Marta Ortega Pérez, the daughter of Inditex founder, Amancio Ortega, is set to take up the position of group chair from April 1, 2022, the company announced recently.

She replaces Pablo Isla, who was formerly executive chair and chief executive of Inditex. Óscar García Maceiras, previously general counsel and secretary of the board, has been appointed to Mr Isla’s former role of chief executive, effective immediately.

Inditex said that this effectively completes the generational handover process initiated in 2011, when Mr Ortega transitioned out of the role of chair.

Ms Ortega, who is particularly known for her work at Inditex brand Zara, commented: “I have lived and breathed this company since my childhood and I have learned from all the great professionals I have worked with over the last 15 years. I have always said that I would dedicate my life to building upon my parents’ legacy, looking to the future but learning from the past.

“I’m deeply honoured by the trust that has been placed in me and enormously excited about the future that we are all about to embark upon together.”

Mr García added: “I assume with great responsibility and enthusiasm the new functions entrusted to me, with the peace of mind of having a great team, full of youth, experience and talent.”

Inditex, officially founded in 1985, is currently home to eight brands: Zara, Pull and Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe.
