Italian know-how aids Canada Goose footwear launch

A month after the launch of Canada Goose’s first ever footwear collection, Italian membrane technology provider Altexa has spoken of its involvement in the project.

Canada Goose announced the collection, which comprises two styles of winter boots, Snow Mantra and Journey, in mid-November. It made it clear at the time that both styles are “built with a waterproof membrane” to create a protective barrier in the upper.

Now Altexa has revealed that the technology that provides this protective barrier is the HDry technology it developed at its base in Busto Arsizio, near Milan.

Both styles of boot have HDry membrane technology laminated onto the entire upper, with Brescia-based textile bonding specialist Macpi working with Altexa to execute the lamination process.

Altexa co-founder, Matteo Morlacchi, recently spoke to industry media in Italy about the Italian companies’ involvement in the Canada Goose launch. He argued that HDry presented the Toronto-based brand with a distinct advantage compared to traditional membrane systems.

He said HDry provides protection against moisture on the exterior of the upper. Other systems offer protection at the lining to prevent moisture from reaching the foot, but trapping the moisture inside a shoe or boot, adding weight and reducing the footwear’s ability to provide warmth.
