Archroma develops ‘safer’ dyestuffs for sportswear
23/03/2022
The group claims 80% of the outdoor and sportswear is dark, but dyestuff generally used to dye polyamide and nylon dark colours usually contain metals.
The Nylosan Navy S-3R and Black S-3N range offers “the safest grade available” with metals and halogens below limits of detection, according to industry-standard test methods.
The range now comprises a wide range of colours and Archroma can colour-match the blacks and navies of major sportswear brands.
They are REACH registered and bluesign approved.
“As most sportswear manufacturers and brands know, creating durable dark colours on nylon is a complex process that uses massive amounts of water and energy. Archroma therefore designed the new Consciously Deep system to allow a highly efficient scour dyeing process reduced from six to two baths,” said the company.
Mark Dohmen, head of the competence centre for synthetics at Archroma, added the more efficient process uses less water and energy, and produces fewer greenhouse gases.
