Puma appeals to football fans to join Re:Jersey project
Sports company Puma and football clubs Borussia Dortmund (BVB), Manchester City, AC Milan and Olympique de Marseille are encouraging fans to donate old football shirts at matches to provide material for circularity project Re:Jersey.
Puma is trialling a chemical recycling process, which turns old polyester garments into new shirts.
Football players have been warming up before matches wearing Re:Jerseys, made with 75% repurposed football shirts.
Fans who donate old items can also take part in a draw to win prizes, such as signed memorabilia.
Kerstin Zerbe, managing director of BVB Merchandising, said: “We see a growing interest from our fans in sustainable merchandising and that they are more aware of sustainability topics.”
