Energy and water savings for anti-odour finish
Swiss textile technology developer HeiQ has begun working with Alchemie Technology to establish a more sustainable method for applying odour-control finishes to textiles.
Cambridge-based Alchemie has developed digital dyeing and finishing technologies that deliver a reduction in energy consumption and eliminate contaminated wastewater emissions. Its Novara high-velocity jetting technology is specifically for applying textile finishing.
It has worked with HeiQ to use Novara to apply the Swiss company’s Life peppermint oil-derived odour control finish to fabric. The two companies have said this has resulted in a 92% saving in water and an 84% reduction in energy use compared to conventional padding processes. They also said the odour-control protection would last for up to 50 washes.
Alchemie’s managing director, Dr Simon Kew, said: “Brands and manufacturers need to lead the change and invest in more sustainable textile production methods.”
