Microban shows support for metal-free
22/09/2022
Known as Refresh, the patent-pending technology has been found to reduce unwanted odours on apparel made from such textiles by up to 93% and after 30 home launderings, without the need for more conventional metal-based chemistries.
In this way, the formula can not only help end users lower their water consumption and mitigate against fibre pollution through reducing the need to wash polyester-rich garments like activewear, but also help extend the useful life of clothing by preventing premature throwaway due to odour build up or permastink, Microban said. It is easily incorporated at mill-level during manufacturing in a particle-free, one-part liquid solution form.
Senior technical manager for textiles at the company, Dr Yihong Li, explained that Refresh had been engineered to integrate into polyester textile production processes “seamlessly”, while at the same time offering a route towards more sustainable methods and storytelling.
Microban's president, Michael Ruby, added that Refresh works well with its Scentry and Scentry Revive formulae.
