Microban introduces water-repellent finish

Better known for its anti-odour textile solutions, Microban is now expanding its scope to include water-repellent finishes with the launch of H2O Shield. The PFAS- and PFOS-free range is available in four different versions targeting various product categories. Microban has developed a specific solution for “low-touch” applications such as awnings and tents (WR1000); a variant has been optimised for wicking performance in outerwear (WR1001), another for dark fabrics (WR1002) and a solution where “seam slippage is a concern such as backpacks and tents” (WR1003). 

Fabrics treated with H2O Shield have been found to achieve a rating of 80 on the spray test (AATCC TM22), and remain efficient for at least 20 home launderings. This new range has also been designed to be used with other Microban products such as its antimicrobial and odour control finishes.

This new offering builds on the company’s long-standing position in the textile industry, and allows it to “deliver multi-functional performance with tailored solutions, protecting and extending the overall life of textile goods and delivering what consumers desire,” commented Microban president Michael Ruby.
