Athlete of the Year honoured by Puma

Sports brand Puma has congratulated Swedish pole-vaulter Armand Duplantis on being named Male Athlete of the Year by the European Athletic Association.

This is the second time the athlete has won this accolade. It came after he won two World Championships, the European Championship, the Diamond League and set a new world record twice in 2022, most recently with a height of 6.21 metres.

Armand Duplantis first broke the pole vault world record in February 2020 and went on to win gold at the 2020 Olympic Games.

He has been a Puma athlete since 2019 and performs in the brand’s EvoSpeed Tokyo Nitro shoes. These shoes have a nitrogen-injected foam midsole, a carbon-fibre infused upper and a lightweight spike outsole.

His is one of seven current world records achieved by athletes wearing Puma shoes. The others are Jonathan Edwards for the triple jump in 1995, Noah Ngeny for the 1,000 metres in 1999, Saif Saaeed Shaheen for the 3,000 metres steeplechase in 2004, Usain Bolt for the 100 metres and 200 metres, both in 2009, and Karsten Warholm for the 400 metres hurdles in 2021.
