Organic cotton label from Hohenstein is on the way

26/01/2023

Testing, certification and research institution Hohenstein will launch a new organic cotton label in 2023.
Two pilot customers have already been successfully certified by Hohenstein: Indian textile supplier Milan Group and Turkish cotton producer Akasya.

Hohenstein said the new label would offer assurance that all requirements for certifying cotton as organic have been met. It will also ensure that the cotton contains less than 10% genetically modified material and complies with pesticide limits.

It said textile companies whose products have already been certified with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 can now have their certificates extended to an organic cotton one after ensuring ecological production.

The new certificate can be used for finished products as well as for textile intermediate products such as fibres or yarns. Mixtures of organic and conventional cotton are not permitted.
