Oeko-Tex reports leap for organic cotton certifications
Research and testing body Oeko-Tex has published its annual report for 2025/26, showing a 214% increase in its organic cotton certifications compared with the year before.
Oeko-Tex organic cotton now exceeds 33 million kilograms at ginning level and is available in 20 countries.
The body credited TextileGenesis with playing a part in the jump; its token-based technology driving the digitalisation of transactions, making processes more secure, data-driven and scalable, it said.
Demand for it’s the ‘Made in Green’ grew by 13% over the year.
Alfred Beerli, CEO of Oeko-Tex, said: "A market full of complex regulation can feel daunting but it represents a real opportunity. We have always believed that genuine progress happens when transparency goes beyond mere compliance. This year, our growth of 5% over all certificates and labels issued proves that the industry shares this belief.”
From 27 September 2026, the EU Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition will require sustainability labels to be based on certification schemes. Beerli added: "What becomes law in September 2026, we have been demanding for more than three decades.”
