Salomon’s recyclable Index.02 shoe weighs 10% less
Outdoor brand Salomon, headquartered in Annecy, France, has gone into further detail regarding its new, “100% recyclable” Index.02 running shoe.
The company said this latest version “features vast improvements” in performance over the Index.01, which made its retail debut in spring 2021 after three years of research and development. “With this new model, we are getting closer to providing the same level of performance as the rest of our road running shoes,” R&D manager for Salomon Footwear, Laurent Coudurier, commented.
Index.02s are also 10% lighter at 263 grams for a UK size 8.5.
As with its predecessor, materials from Index.02 runners sent back to Salomon for recycling will be reused to make the brand’s alpine ski boots. A QR code printed on the tongue facilitates this process by enabling product registration after purchase, while a thin line points to where the shoes, composed of only two different materials, will be split between the upper and bottom unit at the point of recycling.
Additional elements of newness versus the Index.01 include softer materials, such as uppers made from “engineered mesh” for added support, durability and breathability, “a bit more colour” and use of updated Elastollan foam technology from BASF in the midsole, as we reported last month.
