Innovation recognition for Dovetail Workwear and Cordura
A workwear apparel brand focused exclusively on women, Dovetail Workwear, and fabric developer Cordura have been named as the joint winners of a prestigious industry award.
In its annual awards for 2023, the Network Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors (NAUMD) named Cordura and Dovetail as the joint winners in the innovation category for a garment called the Ready Set Cargo Pant.
For the garment, Dovetail chose NYCO lightweight, durable, breathable fabric, which Cordura makes from T420 nylon 6.6 staple fibre from its parent company, Invista. The partners have described the product as being “beautifully sewn for optimal function and a flattering fit, but virtually indestructible”.
Dovetail’s co-founder, Sara DeLuca, said: “This is what levelling the playing field for women on the job site looks like. We know that when she has uniform options that fit and perform, there’s nothing that can stop her.”
Ms DeLuca went on to say that fabric innovation is where “raising the bar starts” for the Portland-based clothing brand.
Cordura business development director, Cindy McNaull, commented that the fabric developer had worked closely with its customer “pooling ideas and combining our strengths”. She said this was the third product launch they had worked on together.
She explained that, in testing, women had worn the Ready Set Cargo pants to hike up a mountain to rescue a fallen climber, to handle airline cargo in rural Alaska and to teach survival tactics in an outdoor school and that the garments had been able to “stand up to the job” each time.
