K2 using Thindown to lighten jackets’ shoulder weight
Careful application of Italian-made Thindown insulation to the front and back shoulder areas of a new puffer from outdoor brand K2 has been designed to minimise the amount of extra weight typically added to the shoulders of natural down jackets, according to the South Korean company.
Thindown’s patent-pending, compressed natural down “fabric” is not only relatively lightweight in comparison to conventional padding, but also seamless, meaning it retains heat well. Supplied in rolls, it is Responsible Down Standard-approved.
The slightly cropped jacket, named the Thinair Ace, is K2’s first quilted down coat in its Thinair series. Available in up to six colourways, the hooded puffer retails for $335.
