Quick-drying insulation material to debut in Jack Wolfskin collection
Outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin is to use quick-drying ExpeDry insulation material from Allied Feather + Down in its autumn-winter 2024 apparel collection.
Allied’s creative director, Matthew Betcher, said there were shortcomings with the hydrophobic chemistry in use in much of the down material in outdoor jackets at the moment. He said these products work well when the material comes into direct contact with water droplets, but is much less effective when the down in jackets comes into contact with humidity and water vapour. “In real-world situations, traditional hydrophobic chemistry is far less efficient,” he said.
He explained that ExpeDRY, created in partnership with Fuze Technologies, with gold particles permanently bonded to down plumes, keeps vapour from condensing, allowing it to evaporate more easily. “This keeps the insulation chamber and the user drier and warmer,” he added.
Director of fabric and trim at Jack Wolfskin, Regina Goller, said the brand was excited to be the first to bring the new technology to market.
