Tuomas Oijala takes the reins at Spinnova

Mr Oijala replaces Kim Poulsen, who announced his departure in April. Chief financial officer Ben Selby was responsible for steering the biomaterials company during the interim.
Some of the latest innovations from Spinnova include a “first-of-its-kind” partnership to scale a new, textile waste-based fibre alongside Sweden’s Renewcell in early autumn. A month prior, in August, the cellulosics producer obtained a grant valued at €1.9 million from Business Finland. Earlier this summer, it signed a yarn development cooperation agreement with Portuguese spinning mill Tearfil. Beyond textile and apparel applications, Spinnova also makes leather-based fibres that can be used in the making of shoe uppers and more.
