Naia Renew achieves GRS certification
US fibre and filament yarn manufacturer Eastman Naia has obtained Global Recycled Standard (GRS) approval for Naia Renew, a wood-based cellulosic made with 40% certified waste material.
The fibre, which blends well with the likes of modal, lyocell and recycled polyester, is otherwise composed of 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp. SCS Global Services carried out the third-party assessment.
Naia Renew’s GRS certification was made possible following Textile Exchange’s decision to broaden the applicability of its mass-balance-based alternative volume reconciliation (VR2) in June.
The standard now extends to gasification and, therefore, the developer’s patented molecular material-to-material recycling technology. Eastman's sustainability leader for textiles, Claudia de Witte, said the team was "thrilled" that Textile Exchange had taken the decision, calling it "a big win for Naia”.
